Product Description

Toni Morrison's Pulitzer-winning 1987 novel, Beloved, is in many ways an iconic work of African-American literature as much as it is within the canon of what comprises literature in English today. A widely read, studied, critiqued, and analysed text, this magical realist narrative incorporates many themes that Morrison broaches across her oeuvre: slavery, black history, feminism, relationships, especially those between women, sexuality and gender, and ideologies, both racial and political. The present volume seeks to dissect these themes with a view of the broader corpus of Morrison's works brought into perspective but focuses on the more minor, more intricate details within the novel itself, elaborating on the themes sufficiently in order to encourage further critical engagement and study.
