TINTIN IN TIBET: ACRITICAL ANTHOLOGY

This critical companion attempts to provide an apparatus for reading Tintin comics academically beyond the apparent innocence of considering them only for pleasure reading. It focuses on Tintin in Tibet as a case study but also explores the world of Tintin comics as such. Critical and focused reading of popular texts, more particularly of graphic narratives, has been seriously lacking. This book tries to fill that gap for the early career academicians and students. It includes a long critical introduction that provides an entry point to the various aspects of the texts, followed by a compendium of critical essays. The essays cover various issues such as colonialism, racism, orientalism, ecology, gender, the politics of translating Tintin, and reading Tintin as a visual narrative. They explore the ideology of the Tintin world and the politics of its reception in the past and present.
