ASOKA: The Buddhist Emperor of India

THe book contains biography and the administration of prominent Indian emperor Asoka of the Maurya Dynasty. Asoka, a son of Bindusara and the third sovereign of the Mauryan Dynasty ascended the throne of Patlipura (BC 273) and undertook the government of Indian empire. He held the government for about 40 years. The numerous inscriptions recorded by Asoka are the leading authority for the events for his reign and administration. Vincent A. Smith was an Irish Indologist and art historian. He wrote books on various rulers such as the Buddhist emperor, Asoka and the Mughal emperor, Akbar, and the A History of Fine Arts in Indian and Ceylon. He also published two comprehensive volumes on Indian history, The Early HIstory of India and The Oxford History of India.
